Whole Wheat Recipes

Whole WheatI've always found that store bought bread, and pizza from a restaurant, leaves me with a very uncomfortable bloated feeling, and after eating it my weight would usually go up by several pounds. Not sure, but it could be from all the salt they put in their products. Anyways, for years I just avoided eating any kind of bread. I even started baking muffins with almond flour instead of regular flour so I wouldn't feel bloated.

My husband likes bread. He likes having toast and peanut butter for breakfast.

So in the last 2 months we have made a point of baking our own bread each week on our days off. Our recipes are so simple. No eggs, very little butter and the only sugar is 2 tablespoons of honey.

We use 100% whole wheat flour.

For one of the loaves we add in cinnamon and raisins. Yum! The second loaf is for sandwiches so it is just a whole wheat loaf.

I find that my body easily digests the bread that we make. My husband finds that he can eat this bread, and unlike store bought bread, it doesn't spike his blood sugar levels.

Last Friday night we decided to try making homemade 100% whole wheat pizza. We have made pizza dough several times before and we were never happy with the outcome. This time it turned out perfect and I am sure we will make it again.

I discovered this whole wheat cook book and I'm looking forward to making our own bake goods with some of these recipes. I enjoy doing my own baking when it comes to breads and treats. For one, it is very economical, and second I know that I am using good ingredients with no preservatives to increase shelf life.

If you enjoy baking you can easily download this Whole Wheat Cookbook and give the recipes a try.

This is perfect for me. I'm a vegetarian, so I don't even eat eggs. I love wheat as it has good amount of fiber and protein. Thanks for sharing!

That's awesome you've been making your own bread! It's AMAZING how much sodium is in bread, buns, and tortillas. Well...it's amazing how much sodium is in everything.

I'm not sure what causes the bloated feeling but salt makes your body retain more water and I'm sure that adds to the problem.

We haven't made our own bread yet, but we've changed our lunches from sandwiches to wraps. The tortillas we buy for the wraps are made up of some vegetables and have very little sodium.

I have to admit I like white bread better then wheat bread (shh..don't tell I know liking white bread is very passe these days). I've always wanted to like wheat bread, I just don't like it as much. I'll have to try whole wheat pizza again. I tried it once, but it was at a natural foods store and had no cheese or sauce, so maybe with the cheese and sauce I'd be ok.

It is amazing how much sodium is in everything. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with high blood pressure several years ago. She said that she would sit down to a meal and before she even tasted it she would add more salt. Now she doesn't touch salt.

I like tortillas as well. They are made in so many different flavours.

And I do like white bread, especially crispy Italian dinner rolls. Unfortunately, shortly after eating white bread it seems to triple in size in my stomach and I look like the Philsbury Dough Boy for the rest of the day :-)

Maybe give the whole wheat pizza dough a try at home and see if you like it.

i love bread too.. but am trying hard to avoid eating too much of it.. after i hit 30, my metabolism was pretty unforgiving when it comes to carb intake..

while i have made some concessions.. i actually prefer burgers without buns, for example.. i can't get past the morning cereal.
