Friday's Circle of Friends - March 30 - The Afternoon Edition

circle of friendsThis post 7 Habits to Live Happy Life with Less is a great reminder of how to live a simpler, healthier and happier life.

Shilpan touches on many important aspects of our life, but the point that really hit home for me was “Obsessive thinking”.

Over the years that has become a very bad habit for me. I obsess about things that have happened but even worse, I obsess about things that I think might happen in the future (today, next week, next year).

We read everywhere “what we focus on becomes our reality”. To some extent I believe that, but in many instances I don’t. Why? Because if all the crap that I have ever focused on had become my reality I probably wouldn’t be here.

In this post Shilpan suggests using Yoga and meditation to relax the mind. I’ve tried that. I’ve also tried listening to meditation CDs as I am falling asleep.

Another thing that I have tried is to repeat good thoughts to myself just as I am about to fall asleep and again in the morning when I am trying to wake up. It’s a work in progress.

This post Blog Movement of the Week! by Average Joe at the free financial advisor touches on several different key topics and talks a bit about his recent vacation to Disney World and how downtime increases his creativity. I completely agree with that. I think downtime allows our mind to free itself from concerns and things that stress us out, and allows our mind to be open to new thoughts and ideas.

Below are a variety of posts from this past week, as well as some from last year.

Up until now I’ve only been keeping up with current posts so I decided to go back in time and see what people were blogging about prior to me starting my blog. I found some very informative posts. I honestly enjoyed them all and just had to include them in my circle of friends this week.

Some great articles this week. Good point you bring up about going back and reading articles before we started blogging. I do this often and find so many great posts.

Your Easter Dinner looks yummy. It reminds me of scalloped potato dishes that I've made.

I'm going to have to try reading some older posts from my favorite blogs too. I'm always focusing on reading their latest posts, but I'm sure they had some great content before their blogs became more popular.

As to obsessive thinking and positive thoughts, I think it is extremely important to stay positive. My mind sometimes likes to focus on the negative side of things until it's all I can think about. It's definitely not a healthy habit. There's just too much to enjoy in the world to waste time on negativity. For some people though it's not really a choice they make.

@Modest Money - It's like getting caught in a downward spiral, but as long as we recognize it quick enough we can bounce back. My thoughts I guess are worries, like if we go away will our cats be okay with a sitter. That kind of stuff.

@ Karl, I do that all the time. The i and l look so similar that multiple times in the past I've scrolled through blog carnivals and the like and thought, "that's not my post" :-)
