Friday's Circle of Friends - December 14

circle of friends"Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, won't you please put a penny in the old man's hat? If you haven't got a penny, a ha'penny will do. If you haven't got a ha'penny, God bless you."

Christmas Day is certainly getting closer. Believe it or not we have actually had a few years where we didn't have any snow for Christmas, but that doesn't happen too often and it certainly will not be the case this year.

We just had new snow fall the other night and this weekend is going to be pretty cold. Google says it will be -12 C over the weekend.

That’s okay. We have some housework to do and some Christmas baking to do too, so we'll be nice and warm.

I am going to try to make Fruit Cake cookies with rum. In the past we bought small Fruit Cakes at Costco but found that they were super high in sugar. In fact we still have a small unopened one in the fridge from 2 years ago.

I remember my Mom making Fruit Cakes from scratch and then wrapping each Fruit Cake in cheesecloth so that she could soak them in rum for a few months leading up to Christmas. Those were delicious!

Before the weekend begins I just wanted to highlight and share some great posts from this week. Some you may have already read, but I bet there are some that you haven’t seen yet. Please check them out.

This week’s Circle of Friends

If you enjoyed the Infographic I shared this week about bacon you will love this cookbook by Eliza Cross (a fellow Yakezie Challenger) 101 Things To Do With Bacon. It includes many delicious recipes. The first one that jumped out at me was “Chicken Bacon Barbecue Pizza”

Kyle @ Rather Be Shopping wrote a quick post to share a very touching comment that he received on his Facebook page. It is from a special woman who talks about the ways her family celebrates Christmas even though her husband hasn’t been able to work in over 2 years: Being Thankful This Christmas

Average Joe and OG @ thefreefinancialadvsior host a weekly podcast and the playback is available on their blog every Monday. They are quite fun to listen to, and this past week one of their special guests was the Evil HR Lady from Switzerland. She shared very interesting tips about how to ask for and negotiate a good severance package if you are laid off from your job. Take a listen to: 2 Guys and Your Money Episode #021: When Your Job Goes Bye Bye.

If you are looking for a new job DC @ YoungAdultMoney wrote a very helpful post about the importance of networking: How Networking Can Benefit Your Career

Grayson @ Debt Roundup is making plans to put together a great post over the Christmas holidays and is looking for input from all PF bloggers: Calling All Personal Finance Bloggers. Drop by his blog to see how you can join in the fun.

Again, if you are applying for a new job KK @ Student Debt Survivor wrote a great post based on her experience at work: Reasons You Didn’t Get Hired-Part I

Marissa @ Thirty Six Months wrote about travel and in particular, how nice it is to go to Cuba, which I love as well: Why I Love All Inclusive Vacations

Marie @ Family Money Values was on a nice private vacation this week and wrote a lovely post about her trip and how special it was: Alone and Loving It!

Gen Y Finance Journey wrote a series of interesting posts. This one talks about what she learned from her Fiancé. Financial Lessons From My Fiancé

IHeartBudgets wrote an important post about the value of a dollar: What Does $1 Mean To You?

Jeffrey @ Saving Advice.com wrote about a challenge that he is working on:  Renting or Homeless? Minimum Wage Challenge

Deacon @ Well Kept Wallet shared a great guest post this week on his blog: Top Three Mistakes of First Time Home Buyers

Krantcents wrote about the importance of a college education, and whether it is truly worth it or not: Is College Worth It?

I read "101 things to do with bacon" and it blew my mind. Then I read "Chicken BACON Barbeque Pizza" and had to go take a smoke break...and I don't smoke.

      Thanks for the mention!

It's been so long since I've had snow on Christmas. Even though I'm Jewish, there's something magical about having snow on Christmas.
