Easy Ways to Book Last Minute Getaways

“So is this really a go?” I ask, my brain only half-registering the trip details.

“Yeah, it is,” she answers with a smile.

For awhile, I take in the meaning of what she said.

But within minutes, my head explodes into a million things I have to do to prepare for my trip in 24 hours!

How the heck was I going to prepare for a backpacking trip in a short amount of time?

Sound familiar? Yes, this has happened to me several times already and surely, it has or will happen to you someday. Before you go off panicking in several directions, here are a few easy ways to book yourself last minute getaways and save yourself the trouble of finding flights, accommodation and tours.

This website is my savior for most of the days when I can’t seem to find myself a place to stay. Expedia.com has been in the market for so many years, garnering a huge following and providing convenience to many travelers. Because of their extensive relationship with the travel market, they’ve started to offer a whole sector of their website just for the last minute deals.

Last Minute

Also a great website to rely on for last minute bookings, this travel and tours portal allows you to book hotels, theaters, spas, holidays, trains and even flights in most of Europe and the US. If you only have a few hours or days to spare in looking for getaways, this is your holy grail. For those who are meticulous about traveling in Europe, Last Minute can also help you find the travel insurance that you need.

G Adventures

Perfect for spontaneous budget travelers, G Adventures offers discounts even for last minute travels. The good news? The discount can be up to 25% off! And for those on a tight budget, that’s definitely a good deal. G Adventures specializes in last minute deals in over 50 countries around the world. They have adventure packages at the Inca trail and the Amazon. They have safari experiences, diving and cruises in Galapagos, dunes, waterfalls and deltas in Africa. G Adventures offer amazing discounts for those looking to experience the great outdoors.

Now, this is my favorite website to book last minute hostels. As a budget backpacker, I like to keep my expenses low. This means booking with hostels, dorms, pension houses and guesthouses. However, I’d still like to get quality accommodation for a good price. HostelBookers provides cheap rates for hostels around the world – without those annoying booking fees. It will also allow you to compare, pick rooms, filter price ranges and check details per room or dorm. The best thing about this site is its capability to rate the hostels using the reviews given by actual guests. Not only can you book cheap places to stay, but you can also see what others have to say about the place.

This is also one of the best websites to check for last minute trips. Usually, I like to email the hotel directly for their actual rates. But if I’m booking accommodations for a last minute travel and I’m short for time, Agoda can do all that for me with just a teeny, tiny bit of additional fee. Unlike HostelBookers that specialize in hostels, Agoda is more on the mid to high range of accommodations. Perfect for a little bit of splurging for your getaway, Agoda offers complete details about the hotel, giving you a clear insight of what to expect. It also has hotel ratings, so it is easier to compare with other hotels.

Never hesitate to take a spontaneous getaway, especially when there are ways to easily book your trip. Sometimes, the best experiences in life are those that are spontaneously accepted. Go travel!

I can honestly say I've never had a spontaneous getaway. I'm way too much of a planner and the weekends are usually already scheduled and planned. Maybe I'll have to give a try sometime.

I like to plan things out as well, but I agree with Brenna, sometimes spontaneous or last minute adventures are the most exciting.

If you have a lot of latitude and flexibility, you can take advantage of a lot of bargains. I used to travel in the off season and landed a few good deals.

Yes, the more flexibility people have with dates the better the deals are.

Wow, 24 hours! I'm not organized enough to go anywhere within 24 hours. Though it is a good way to save money.
