Not everyone likes taking the time to go through coupons. Let’s be honest, in between work and running the house, who has the time nowadays. The whole process of clipping and organizing coupons is a tedious and often time consuming one. But it can be worth it if it means saving money on our grocery bill.

Then there are folks who don’t believe couponing actually saves money at all. And the whole couponing community drew a gasp of air.

But just because people aren’t into couponing it doesn’t mean they don’t like to save money.

If you aren’t a fan of coupons and the extreme couponing frenzy doesn’t catch your attention but you still want to save money on groceries, fret not my friends.

There are some things you can do to save money on your food bill without having to print or clip coupons and still keep the fridge and pantry stocked. And in this post, I’m going to share five of them with you.

Four Ways To Save Money On Groceries Without Using Coupons

Grocery Store Reward Programs

The first thing I would recommend is joining a reward’s program.

Look at the different ones offered by your local grocers and choose the best one that will save you the most money.

The reward card often comes with extra savings without the hassle of clipping coupons.

And if they have an app, make sure it’s on your phone. Apps like Target’s cartwheel have extra savings on your purchases as well.

Buy Larger Quantities

Buy bagged veggies and fruits.

For example, at Kroger, I can get a 5lb bag of potatoes for about $3.00 versus buying individual potatoes for $1.39 a pound.

Also, consider purchasing bags of fruit instead of paying per pound. Remember that even though cut and prepackaged fruit is more convenient, it’s more expensive, too.

Take advantage of family packs of beef, pork or chicken and split to use for two different meals.

Check the meat section of your grocery store for packaged meats that include veggies.

Do the math. Check unit prices for the products to see if buying in bulk is cheaper than buying a regular sized packaged item.

Bake It Yourself

Avoid junk food but if you have to have something sweet a box of cake mix and icing will be less than $4.00 versus a small box of cookies from the bakery that are about $10.99.

Price Match

If you’re into price matching, take all the circulars and go to stores like Walmart who have programs like the price ad match program. This way, you’ll get all the sales from the local grocery stores in your area at one store. Seems like a pretty simple thing to do right?

Over To You

If you are working hard this year to save money and spend less on groceries and other household items, you may want to use all of the above ideas every time you go shopping. Also, remember that a good plan is key to making this work.
